Nihongo speech contest held

CEBU, Philippines - The Japanese Association Cebu, Inc. successfully held the 12th Nihongo Speech Contest last February 1 at the SM City Conference Room.

This year’s contest was held  in cooperation with The Japan Foundation, Manila as well as the sponsors from the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Cebu, Inc., and the Consular Office of Japan in Cebu.

The contest aims to motivate those currently studying Japanese, to improve the Japanese Language Education in the Visayas area, and to deepen mutual understanding between Filipino and Japanese.

This year’s edition was participated by 12 contestants with the three of them emerging as winners in their respective category.

For the Student Division, Ms. Glykie Canete from UC-CEBU Banilad, bested the field with  her speech,  “Shinjiru mono” (Something to believe in).

Mr. Jan Michael Pajaro from Advanced World Systems, Inc. was declared winner in the Non-student Division for his speech, “Sumaatofon no tsukaikata” (How Do You Use Your Smartphone?).  

The speech, “Okayama no basu untenshu” (The Bus Driver From Okayama) made Micho Diez from DASH Engineering Phils., Inc.  as the grand winner  in the Open Division.

The three  winners will be goin on  an all-expense paid trip to Manila to join the 41st Nihongo Speech Contest organized by The Japan Foundation Manila on Saturday, February 22 at the Cinema 1 of Shangri-La Plaza Mall, EDSA, Mandaluyong City. (FREEMAN)
