CEBU, Philippines - Successful Cebuano entrepreneurs and policy makers will convene for the Cebu Startup Day this December 7 to share their insights on startups and other key topics such as traffic problems and disasters.
The Cebu Startup Day, to be held at University of the Philippines — Cebu in Lahug, Cebu City next Saturday, is in line with the celebration of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) this year.
To be organized by TechTalks.ph, the Cebu Startup Day is originally scheduled last November 23 but was moved in the light of typhoon Yolanda relief efforts.
Resource speakers for the event will include Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) executive director Atty. Rafael Yap, Ng Khai president Wilson Ng, Mynimo.com founder and chief executive officer Wesley Chiongbian and Istorya.net co-founder Gerald Yuvallos.
It will also highlight the startup product demos featuring the recent transit application winner, Transit.com.ph, taxi application MiCab.co, and disaster application Tudlo.me.
GEW is aimed at gathering innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth, and expand human welfare.
It dedicates a week of each November to inspire people through local, national, and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators.
Founded by the Kauffman Foundation in 2008, GEW has since grown to 131 countries with 24,008 partner organizations which are planning 33,846 activities that directly engage millions of participants every year.
For the first time, the Philippines has joined the international event with its main celebration held at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
It mainly showcased three events namely the Global Entrepreneurship Week Awards, Global Entrepreneurship Week Congress, and Business Startup Expo that were staged last November 20 to 22. (FREEMAN)
