CEBU, Philippines - Cannes, a city located along the Mediterranean coastline of France, is home to the prestigious Festival de Cannes, the foremost event for pursuing the art of filmmaking and fostering collaboration among different countries involved in the film industry.
This year, the Cebu International Documentary Film Festival (CIDFF) was accredited to attend the 66th Cannes Festival held last May 15 to 26, 2013 at Grand Lumiere Theater, Theater Debussy and hotels near the city.
CIDFF went to the occasion to represent Cebu and source films for their upcoming festival celebration this August.
CIDFF was able to gain networks from famous professional filmmakers, distributors and filmmaking institutions such as Dogwoof Global from U.K., OMGACT entertainment from Japan, Doc & Film in France, Cinephil from Israel, Promofest from Spain and many more.
CIDFF Festival director, April Dequito shared that “Cannes has a highly evolving film industry that inspires CIDFF.â€
“There is a need to nourish the artistic and cultural value of the Philippine film industry to strengthen the audience’s patronage towards local films in the country because this kind of patronage spurs creativity that will provide more opportunities to increase economic activity for the industry,†Dequito elaborated.
The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) also reached out to CIDFF for future collaboration on their 1st Southeast Asian category film competition.
CIDFF invites film enthusiasts to submit their film entries for their film screening event and competition, this coming August 24 to 28, and film production companies and distributors to exhibit their products and services during the 2nd Cebu Film Market Expo on August 23, 2013.
