MANILA, Philippines — Cignal survived a gritty challenge put up by Nxled and pulled off a 25-18, 25-22, 25-23 victory yesterday to jump to the top in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Minglanilla Sports Complex in Cebu.

Vannie Gandler led the way with 13 points as the HD Spikers stayed unscathed with a fourth straight win, surging ahead of the Creamline Cool Smashers, who own an equally pristine 3-0 card.

“I’m really happy with the team effort and we were able to survive the distractions that happened,” said Gandler, referring to the power outage that delayed the game for less than half an hour.

Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos later admitted it wasn’t a pretty victory.

“Nakita naman ‘yung reaction ng players after the game. Sila ang nagsabi na ‘Coach, babawi kami,’” said Delos Santos.

Chiara Permentilla led Nxled with 18 points but the Chameleons still dropped to a fifth straight defeat.
