MANILA, Philippines — All jockey Patricio “Pati” Dilema needed was a good jump out of the gate and Batang Manda took care of the rest as he made short work of the opposition in the 2024 Philracom 3YO Maiden Stakes at the Metroturf in Malvar Batangas.
Practically leading the entire 1400m distance, the Ultimate Goal out of Posse Left bay colt bred by Mar Tirona encountered a brief challenge from Feet Bell until the half-mile pole. But there was no cause for alarm as the Claudio “Jojo” Angeles trained galloper had everything under control.
By the 3/8 mile pole, there was no doubt that Batang Manda would cruise home to victory and that he did by winning the race four lengths ahead of Boss Lady with Added Haha taking third and Still Somehow finishing fourth.
The race was over in a breezing 1:25.8 seconds with clips of 13’-22-23’-26.
Proud owner DILG Sec. Benhur Abalos, who was on hand to receive his owner’s trophy, said, “Maraming salamat sa bayang karerista. Kung wala kayo hindi manunumbalik ang sigla ng karerang Pilipino na pinakamatandang industriya ng karera sa buong Asya at nagbibigay ng hanapbuhay sa napakaraming kababayan natin.”
For his part, Philracom chairman Reli de Leon congratulated the winning connections and seconded Abalos’ statement. “Thank you racing fans for your support for our industry. We expect it to grow further and there is no doubt in my mind that will happen with your continuing support.”
