MANILA, Philippines -- Five games in and the four-peat seeking Letran Knights are yet to notch a win in the NCAA Season 99 as they suffered an 87-80 loss against the Arellano University Chiefs Sunday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Before the game, the two teams are the only winless teams in the game.
Trailing by a solitary point heading into the final frame, 64-65, Arellano opened the quarter with a 10-3 run to take a 74-68 lead.
Since then, the Chiefs never looked back as they tightened their defense.
Felix Villarente had 15 points for the Chiefs, making 4of his 7 shots.
Troy Valencia followed with 14 points.
Kobe Monje, Kurt Reyson and Vince Cuajao had 18, 16 and 15 points, respectively for the Knights.
Letran looked awkward at times, as Arellano forced the defending champions to commit 17 turnovers.
Arellano also stole the ball 12 times.
With the win, Arellano is now holding a 1-4 win-loss slate.
Letran dropped to the bottom of the cellar with a 0-5 record.
