Brownlee heads ‘Redeem Team’ to Cambodia

MANILA, Philippines — In a spirited quest to regain the lost gold in the Southeast Asian Games, Gilas Pilipinas is assembling its own version of the “Redeem Team” to Cambodia led by naturalized player Justin Brownlee.

Brownlee headlines a 28-man pool submitted by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas to the SEAG organizers through the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Joining the Ginebra resident import are six-time MVP June Mar Fajardo and fellow PBA stalwarts CJ Perez, Chris Ross, Marcio Lassiter, Japeth Aguilar, Scottie Thompson, Jamie Malonzo, Christian Standhardinger, Stanley Pringle, Roger Pogoy, Calvin Oftana, Poy Erram, Mikey Williams, Chris Newsome, Raymond Almazan, Aaron Black, Arvin Tolentino, Kevin Alas, Jeremiah Gray and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser.

From the collegiate ranks are Deschon Winston, Kevin Quiambao, Jerom Lastimosa, Mason Amos, Benjamin Phillips III, AJ Edu and Michael Phillips.

A total of 840 Filipino athletes will battle it out for glory from May 5 to 17 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

POC president Abraham Tolentino said they trimmed the number from the original 905 due to some lineup discrepancies and double entries.
