MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-Nigerian center AJ Edu can’t wait to don national colors anew after two major injuries that kept him away from play since last suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas youth team in 2019.
The 6-foot-10 teen star said he’s on his way to full recovery and is ready to answer call for the 2023 FIBA World Cup to be hosted by the Philippines.
“I do want to play for Gilas again in the near future. This summer might be a little too soon for I’m still adjusting from my injury but definitely, the plan is to be part of Gilas in the future,” Edu said on the Power and Play program on Radyo Singko.
A stalwart for University of Toledo, Edu suffered an ACL tear during the Gilas youth’s FIBA U19 World Cup stint in Greece two years ago then sustained a meniscus injury last collegiate season.
Now fully healed after successful surgeries, Edu is aiming to have a healthy run to help the Rockets qualify in the NCAA national championship.
Then, Gilas stint is up next with Edu looking forward to a triple-tower combo with Kai Sotto and Gilas new naturalized player Ange Kouame.
