ILAGAN CITY, Isabela, Philippines — National record-holder Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh of Parañaque delivered as promised as she topped both her events even as Aubrey Tom made some heads turn by splashing her way to three gold medals yesterday in the Luzon leg of the Philippine National Youth Games-Batang Pinoy at the Isabela Sports Complex pool area here.
Knowing she will get most of the attention being the owner of Phl meet marks in 100m and 200m butterfly, Mojdeh, competing in the 13-15-year-old bracket as a 12-year-old, ruled the 200m individual medley in two minutes, 34.91 seconds and 400m IM in 5:25.11.
She will be most dangerous when she plunges back into action in the 100m and 50m fly today and 200m fly tomorrow since these three are her favorite events.
“I’m satisfied with my time today (yesterday), they’re not too slow and hopefully I could be faster tomorrow (today),” said Mojdeh, who snared six golds in a Japan meet where she also emerged the Most Outstanding Swimmer.
Tom of Cainta, Rizal reigned in the 200m IM (2:37.95), 100m freestyle (1:04.24) and 50m backstroke (34.20) to emerge the first triple-gold medal winner in this meet for athletes 15 years and below.
Like Mojdeh, Tom is eyeing to sweep all her five individual events, the last two of them in the 50m fly today and 50m free tomorrow.
