MANILA, Philippines — Athletes and coaches under the national pool will soon enjoy the benefits and privileges accorded to senior citizens.
The Philippine Sports Commission said the athletes and coaches, upon presentation of their validated cards, will be granted 20 percent discounts on transportation services, hotels, restaurants and recreation centers.
Guillermo Iroy, PSC deputy executive director, said also covered is purchase of medicine and sports equipment anywhere in the country.
Iroy sat down with representatives of the Bureau of Internal Revenue yesterday afternoon to finalize the implementation of Section 4 of Republic Act 10699 also known as the Sports Benefits and Incentives Act of 2001.
“Around 1,000 athletes and coaches will benefit from this,” said Iroy.
A national athlete and coach on active duty with their respective national sports association will be covered by the act.
The 20 percent discount will also cover medical and dental consultations in government hospitals, and admission fees on theaters and other cinemas, concerts and other places of “culture, leisure and amusement.”
