MANILA, Philippines - Tubod, Lanao del Norte’s Renest Sonsona beat sibling Stephen Sonsona, 8-4, to cop the boys’ 18-and-under crown while Princess Gomos of Zamboanga del Sur took the girls’ title with an 8-7 win over Sydney Enriquez in the Cebuana Lhuillier age group tennis championship series in Sindanga, Zamboanga del Norte recently.
Enriquez, from Zamboanga del Norte, rebounded from her setback to win the 16-U plum with an 8-7 victory over Gomos even as Nash Agustines from Oroquieta took the boys’ 12-U diadem with an 8-2 rout of Christopher Sonsona.
Kurt Gervan Bandolis bagged the 10-U crown with a 4-2, 4-1 romp over Ellaquim dela Rosa.
Angel Repaja snared the girls’ 14-U title with an 8-4 victory over local bet Rica Labrador, who took the 12-U diadem while Armando Magallanes from Iligan pulled off an 8-6 decision over boys’ 14-U champion Stephen Zion Guia from Dipolog.
“We are identifying new and promising provincial talents at the same time that we are providing them with regular tournaments where they can hone their skills like in this leg,” said Cebuana Lhuillier president/CEO and current Philta chair Jean Henri Lhuillier, who initiated this nationwide series 10 years ago as a tennis grassroots program.
