Stallions hold off Titans, boost NAASCU drive

MANILA, Philippines - Chris Bitoon fired 20 points as Manuel Luis Quezon University downed AMA University, 89-82, to bolster its bid in the 16th NAASCU men’s basketball tournament at the RTU gym in Boni Ave., Mandaluyong yesterday.

Nikko Lao and Jaymark Mallari backed Bitoon with 19 and 17 points, respectively, as the Stallions improved to 5-3. 

Miguel Magpantay topscored for AMA with 29 points while Jezer Calma had 16 markers, Jason Riley added 12 points and Jason Jordan and Jerome Ortega combined for 21 markers for the Titans, who fell to 3-6.

In the other game, Philippine Merchant Marine School defeated Colegio de San Lorenzo, 84-80, behind Donmark Matillano, Rocky Antonares and Darryl Margaja to notch its third win against four losses.

Matillano fired 21 points, Antonares had 19 markers while Margaja had 16 points for the Las Piñas-based Mariners.

JonJon Gabriel and Mark Carongoy paced the Griffins with 20 and 18 points, respectively. 

CdSL dropped to 2-6.
