GENEVA – Top-seeded Stan Wawrinka cruised past Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain 6-1, 6-1 in the Geneva Open second round on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila).
The French Open champion spent just 53 minutes on court against his 53rd-ranked opponent to warm up for his defense in Paris starting next week.
Wawrinka will play another Spaniard in the quarterfinals, 43rd-ranked Pablo Carreno Busta who beat compatriot Inigo Cervantes 6-2, 6-4.
In a first-round match, defending Geneva champion Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil also won easily, 6-1, 6-1 against Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan.
Rajeev Ram of the United States beat Russian qualifier Evgeny Donskoy 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 and Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan ousted Florian Mayer of Germany 6-2, 6-3.
