MANILA, Philippines – Cyna Rodriguez finally regained her touch and turned in a five-under 68 but still wound up down in joint 72nd in her first LPGA Tour event in the Pure Silk Bahamas Classic won by Korean Hyo Joo Kim in Bahamas Sunday.
Rodriguez, who opened with an impressive 70 but fumbled with 77 and 78 in the middle rounds, struck back with a solid 31 at the front, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 No. 4. She went six-under with another birdie on the 14th but went into trouble and dropped two shots on the par-5 15th.
But the Filipina shotmaker closed out with another birdie for a 37 and a 68. She totaled a one-over 293 for a share of 72nd with four others and received $2,648.
Hyo sizzled with a 66 to finish with an 18-under 274, beating American Stacy Lewis, Swede Anna Nordqvist and compatriot Sei Young Kim by two. Lewis and Sei fired ideintical 68s while Nordqvist carded a 69 for 276s.
Rodriguez hopes to bring her solid finish to Florida when she resumes her campaign in the Coates Golf Championship beginning tomorrow.
