MANILA, Philippines – Lyceum of the Philippines University routed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 12-0, yesterday to keep its slim semifinal hopes alive in the 91st NCAA football tournament at the Rizal Memorial pitch.
Mariano Suba came through with a whopping six-goal feat, including four in the second half when the Pirates pulled away for good en route to posting their second victory against three defeats, half a game behind their victims, who fell to 2-2.
In case of a tie for No. 4, however, Lyceum has better goal differential than EAC, -22 to -26.
At press time, San Beda and College of St. Benilde lead the way with 4-0 records although the Lions, the defending champions, tote a better goal differential than the Blazers, 58-54.
Arellano U is at third with a 4-1 slate.
Suba opened the scoring early on the 15th minute and then scored another goal 11 minutes later that sandwiched a rocket by Noli Dollentes on the 11th.
Beejay Gonzales struck two goals in a hurry late in the first half that gave the Pirates a 5-0 lead at halftime.
Then Suba unloaded four more goals at resumption to complete the Pirates’ lopsided win.
Other scorers for LPU were Christopher Villanueva and Zynedyne Peñaflor.
