MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum of the Philippines University tries to stay in the Final Four hunt as it tangles with San Beda in today’s resumption of the 91st NCAA volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Pirates lay at No. 5 with a 4-3 (win-loss) record before the holiday break, just behind the Perpetual Help Lady Altas, who tote a 4-2 slate.
San Sebastian leads the way with six straight wins while defending champion Arellano U and St. Benilde are at Nos. 2 and 3 with a 6-1 and 5-1 mark, respectively.
LPU coach Emil Lontoc said they’re going all out to make the Final Four for the first time since it joined the league a few years back.
“Hopefully this year we could advance to the Final Four, that’s really our goal,” said Lontoc.
In men’s play, San Beda aims to break out of a two-way tie with Arellano U at No. 4 on 4-3 slates as it clashes with LPU, with a 3-4 mark for No. 6.
Perpetual Help paces the field with a 6-0 record while reigning titlist Emilio Aguinaldo College and St. Benilde are at Nos. 2 and 3 with 6-1 and 5-1 slates, respectively.
Perpetual Help also leads the juniors side with four victories in a row with EAC just behind with a 4-1 mark followed by Arellano (4-2) and San Sebastian (2-2).
