It’s Christmas contest time

Here we go again! It’s time for our annual Christmas contest, our small way of giving thanks to all our readers for patronizing The Star’s sports section. We’re giving away cash and kind to at least 10 lucky winners. Depending on how many prizes we’re able to solicit, we could go up to as many as 25 winners.

So far, we’ve raised P25,000 in cash – P15,000 from the Herma Group, courtesy of businessman Hermie Esguerra, P5,000 from ALA Boxing CEO Tony Aldeguer and P5,000 from GAB chairman Monju Guanzon. Additionally, we’ve received donations from the Alaska Aces (five Alaska caps, five Alaska magazines, two Alaska Aces jerseys and 10 Alaska Aces T-shirts), ALA Boxing (six ALA Boxing signature T-shirts, one ALA Boxing gym bag, one ALA Boxing jacket, 10 Island Souvenirs T-shirts and 10 Island Souvenirs keychains), Sonia Trading (six Mikasa volleyballs, six Molten basketballs and four badminton rackets), Gatorade (two cases of low-carb Gatorade, 25 trucker caps, 25 squeeze bottles) and Ever Bilena (Blackwater products for men and women).

We’ll update our list of prizes as donations come in.

To join our Christmas contest, simply answer these three questions: 1. Who is the tallest player in the PBA Philippine Cup this season? 2. Which schools won the senior men’s basketball championships in the UAAP, NCAA and CESAFI this year? 3. Who is the only Filipino athlete to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics so far?

Place your answers on a slip of paper and in at least three sentences, write why you read the sports section of The Philippine STAR and what you would like to happen in Philippine sports in 2016. We’ll choose at least 10 winners with the correct answers to the three questions and the most creative response to why you read the sports section of The Philippine STAR and what you would like to happen in Philippine sports in 2016. Don’t forget to write your name, age, occupation (if student, what course, year, school), home address and telephone number on the slip of paper. Attach a clipping of the masthead on the front page of The Philippine STAR newspaper showing the date.

You may send in as many entries as you wish. Each entry must be an original. No Xerox copies of entries or mastheads will be allowed. No need to use an envelope. Just clip the masthead with the slip of paper showing your answers, essay and contact details. Send your entries to The Philippine Star, Sports Section, Railroad and Oca Streets, Port Area, Metro Manila. You may deposit your entries straight into our box at The Philippine STAR lobby or mail to The Philippine STAR address. It’s easy to join. Who knows? You could win some amazing prizes to make your Christmas even merrier. We’ve been running this contest for years and it’s wonderful to share blessings with our winners.

Deadline for entries is on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m. Winners will be announced in this column in The Philippine STAR issue of Thursday, Dec. 17. Prizes will be given to the winners at The Philippine STAR office on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m.

Don’t delay. Send in your entries now for the chance to win cash and other big prizes.
