Warriors' Pospisil beats Baghdatis, enters Malaysia Open q'finals

KUALA KUMPUR, Malaysia — Eighth-seeded Vasek Pospisil advanced to the quarterfinals of the Malaysian Open by beating Marcos Baghdatis 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-3 Thursday.

The Canadian struggled with cramps late in the match but still managed to win.

Pospisil, who reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals, will next meet Feliciano Lopez of Spain. The Spaniard defeated qualifier Mischa Zverev of Germany 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Also, Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan beat Radu Albot of Moldova 6-3, 6-2; top-seeded David Ferrer beat Radek Stepanek 7-5, 6-3; and fourth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria defeated Joao Sousa of Portugal 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Dimitrov will next face Benjamin Becker.

Pospisil is set to join the International Premier Tennis League this December under the banner of the Japan Warriors.
