MANILA, Philippines – Happy days are back for local NBA fans despite the off-season as the three giant sneaker companies will bring their stars to the country for promotional tours.
Nike took the first cue by bringing Indiana Pacers' Paul George earlier but that will be overshadowed by their biggest star LeBron James' scheduled visit on August 19.
James, a four-time MVP and a two-time NBA champion, is returning to the country since his first visit in 2013 to serve as inspiration and guest mentor in Nike Rise documentary, the newest basketball reality search for street ball talents. The Cleveland Cavaliers' star is reportedly scheduled to have an open training with the Rise kids at the Mall of Asia Arena on August 20.
His first Manila trip was a groundbreaking success as fans camped out for three days at the Nike store in Global City for the free tickets. Nike Philippines has yet to announce details on how the fans can score the precious ticket to his second Manila act.
Meanwhile, adidas will be bringing young Spanish star Ricky Rubio of the Minnesota Timberwolves on August 21-23. Rubio's schedule and itinerary of his three-day Manila tour has yet to be announced.
Fast-rising sneaker company Under Armour is not about to be left behind as they saved their best for last by bringing in reigning NBA champion and MVP Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors for a one-day stop in Manila on September 5.
