MANILA, Philippines - The Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association (ISAA) enters its seventh season on Aug. 19 with around 8,000 students expected to flock to the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
According to ISAA president Melanie Florentino, eight schools will compete this year in five sports disciplines – basketball, volleyball, badminton, swimming and table tennis.
The competing schools are the Philippine Merchant Maritime School (PMMS), FEATI University, St. Dominic College of Asia (SDCA), Manila Tytana Colleges, Manila Adventist Medical Center and Colleges (MAMCC), Philippine Women’s University (PWU), La Consolacion College of Manila (LCCM) and newcomer PATTS School of Aeronautics.
Former PBA star and ex-national player Ronnie Magsanoc will be the guest of honor during the opening rites set at 9 a.m.
A triple-header in basketball, the centerpiece event, will be the main feature on opening day, pitting host school PMMS versus SDCA, LCCM against Tytana and PATTS versus PWU.
Florentino, from FEATI, told yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate that ISAA is getting bigger each year, adding that they are still inviting more schools to join. This year’s theme is “Soaring.”
“Schools with legitimate sports programs are welcome to join. Maybe ten member schools will more than okay for us. Hopefully we will get there,” she said.
Also appearing in the forum presented by Shakey’s, Accel, Pagcor and San Miguel Corporation are school representatives Raul Santos (PWU), Marlon Asuque (PMMS), Benjie Hernandez (PATTS) and Audie Cristobal (LCCM).
