MANILA, Philippines — Lebanon's naturalized player and former GlobalPort import Jarrid Famous earned a contract with the Dallas Mavericks after an impressive Summer League stint with the Washington Wizards.
Famous brought the momentum of his explosive play in the PBA into the Las Vegas Summer League as he averaged 10.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in five starts with the Wizards that included a 16-point, nine-rebound performance against the Mavericks.
The 6-foot-11 forward led the Batang Pier to the quarterfinals in the Governors' Cup before he went to Las Vegas. In his second tour of duty in the PBA, the 27-year old Famous normed 30.2 points, 23.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks.
Aside from his vast experience playing in the NBA D-League and touring the world, he also represented Lebanon in the Jones Cup in 2012 as their naturalized player.
Famous will join the Mavericks training camp and will compete for a regular season roster spot. His signing along with that of free agent shooting guard John Jenkins were announced on Friday (Saturday Manila time). Details of their contracts were not divulged.
Prior to his PBA comeback, Famous starred with the Mavericks' D-League affiliate Texas Legends where he averaged 18.1 points and 14.4 rebounds. He will bring his rebounding ability to a Dallas team wanting in frontline depth after DeAndre Jordan reneged on his verbal commitment to sign with them and returned to the Los Angeles Clippers.
