Global XI opens UFL title defense

MANILA, Philippines - Global FC kicks off its title-retention drive against Green Archers United as action in the United Football League begins today at the Rizal Memorial football stadium.

Handled by Scottish head coach Leigh Manson, the Dan Palami-backed Global FC enjoyed a spectacular run in 2014 to finish a commanding 13 points ahead of Loyola Meralco Sparks.

Given the club’s dominance in the last League, the Azkals-laden squad has been installed as the team to beat although the defending champions will have to do it sans last year’s MVP Jason de Jong.

Global FC and Green Archers United clash in the 8:15 p.m. main game to be aired on a delayed basis on Aksyon TV.

Ceres-La Salle, boasting of a stellar roster equally packed with national team players, takes on Manila Jeepney in the 2:15 p.m. while Kaya FC battles Philippine Army at 5:15 p.m.

Loyola Meralco Sparks, meanwhile, opens its bid tomorrow against Team Socceroo at 5:15 p.m. while Stallion FC collides with Pachanga Diliman at 8:15 p.m.
