MANILA, Philippines - The Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala Regional Age Group 2015 presented by Tecnifibre kicks off its 38-leg circuit today in Ormoc City with a huge field clashing for top honors in various divisions at the Ormoc Midtown Tennis Club.
Manila-based netters Jerome Romualdez and Cenon Gonzales Jr. have confirmed participation in the five-day tournament, toughening up the boys’ field in the event sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association and put up by the country’s leading pawnshop, remittance and claim center.
“It’s an honor to host the first leg of the Palawan Pawnshop circuit which has boosted not only the development of the sport but has also provided a venue for these young players to showcase their skills,” said Ormoc City Mayor Edward Codilla.
Master Yan, Joshua Torres and Ivan Cari head the local challenge, all raring to prove their worth and gain ranking points in the Group 2 tournament. Others in the fold are Paolo Loreto, Ghyiem Basalo, Guille Darasin, Gia Cari, Jemina Jabines and Corazon Lambonao.
“We have lined up a 38-leg nationwide circuit for our young netters as part of Palawan Pawnshop’s continuing effort to boost the sport and at the same time help in producing top-caliber players,” said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro.
As in the past, the circuit will be staged in the key cities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao with Iloilo City hosting the second stop on Jan. 22-26 at the LaPaz Tennis Club. Action shifts to Davao City the following week for the third at the Eco 4 Tennis Club on Jan. 30-Feb. 2.
“Palawan Pawnshop has been Philta’s long-time partner in developing both the sport and our young players and we will continue providing them top-notch competitions to further raise the level of their respective games,” said Philta president and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez.
