MANILA, Philippines - Jewel Angelo Albo delivered an impressive feat while national junior players Sarah Joy Barredo and Ros Leenard Pedrosa won against separate foes over the weekend in Sun Cellular-Ming Ramos National Junior Badminton Tournament national finals at the SM Annex North Edsa, Quezon City.
Albo, 10, representing Luzon, beat Lyrden Laborte of Visayas in the boys’ Under-13 singles class, 21-15, 21-23, 21-11, while Anthea Marie Gonzales also of Luzon ripped Marichelle Bejasa of Visayas in the girls’ U-13 division, 8-21, 21-15, 21-11.
Luzon’s Barredo, 17, blanked Janine Peligrino of Mindanao in the girls’ Under-19, 21-13, 21-13, and Pedrosa of Luzon whipped Emilio Mangubat of Visayas in the boys’ U-19, 21-15, 16-21, 21-13, to advance in the second round of the two-day round-robin tournament.
Dexter Opalla and Niño Jay Quindao defeated Alem Palmares and Richard Rio in the boys’ Under-19 doubles class, 18-21, 21-16, 21-19, while Mia Manguilimotan and Ellana Tan bashed Lourdes Babanto and Maxene Olango in the girls’ U-15 doubles event.
The tournament is supported by Sun Cellular, SMART Communications, Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) Sports Foundation,PBA Smash Pilipinas, Prima Pasta, Rocktape Phils. and Babolat, and powered by the Forthright Events.
The competition is sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association (PBA) and is part of the Philippine National Ranking System.
