Cebu CC braces for S’woods-Masters fightback

CEBU, Philippines – Cebu Country Club braces for a big charge by four-peat seeking Manila Southwoods-Masters but remains confident of its title chances with a seven-point lead heading to today’s final round of the ninth Philippine Airlines Interclub Championship at Alta Vista here today.

Lois Kaye Go carded a one-over 73 worth 53 points as CCC surprised the fancied Carmona-based squad with a 281 to seize control in the 36-hole tournament. Other scores for CCC in the eight-to-play, six-to-count format event were Mary Kim Hong (52), Junia Gabasa (47), Marie Olea (44), Crystal Faith Superal (44) and Myra Jae Wong (41).

SW-Masters has not trailed going into the final round of this tournament the last three years and would need a strong start to pull even and make a game out of it in the last 18 holes.

Sofia Chabon, who fired 51 points, and Annika Cedo, who opened with 48, will again continue to lead the SW-Masters, who sorely missed the services of Asian Gamer Miya Legaspi, who failed to make the trip because of academic commitments.

Lora Roberto and Missy Legaspi are the other players tipped to deliver for the defending three-peat champions.

Del Monte, which finished second to SW-Masters twice in the last three years, is practically out of it with a 249 while rookie squad Alta Vista is a far fourth with a 228.

Meanwhile, a two-team race shaped up in the Founders Division with Valley Golf posting a seven-point lead over Alabang with a 243 total after first round yesterday.
