MANILA, Philippines - Wei Wei Gao upended Gen Nagai in a shootout as Centre of International Education built a commanding lead in the juniors division of the JGFP-ICTSI National Inter-School golf championship at the Cebu Country Club recently.
Gao, who saw action for Team Phl in the Lion City Cup in Brunei recently, scored 50 points against the 49 of the multi-titled Nagai, boosting CIE’s bid for the crown. Ryo Haga and Jun Haga delivered 39 and 25 points, respectively, for a 114 total heading into this Sunday’s final round, also at the CCC. Nagai’s Cebu International School wound up with 72.
The University of San Carlos and Sacred Heart Jesuit-Ateneo de Cebu were the other team leaders in the tourney with the major backing of the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and also supported by the Philippine Golf Foundation, Martin Lorenzo, Golf Depot and Inquirer Golf.
USC showed the way in seniors play with 95 while Sacred Heart held a slim lead in the Midgets division.
Harvey Sytiongsa scored 46, Sir Cross Abarintos Jr. did 39 and Kerwin Sytiongsa had 22 for USC’s 95-point effort while Daniel Jed Yap (37), Guilbert Purcia IV (36) and Rusel Rex King (19) accounted for the 92 of Sacred Heart, which paced Paref by one.
There was intense action in the individual battles with Gao, Harvey Sytiongsa, Alron Sorino of University of Cebu, Tatsuyoshi Ochiai of Singapore School Cebu and Angela Mangana of Asian College of Technology up by a few points in their respective brackets. Sorino was tied for the lead with Sytiongsa at 46 in seniors action, Ochiai (33) paced Raymond Edward Tampus of Blessed Trinity Achievers Academy (32) in Midgets 2 and Mangana just two ahead of Weifang Gao of CIE, 47-45, in the Girls 3 division.
The other leaders were Lois Kaye Go of CIE in Girls 2 with her 48, Wei Yu Gao of CIE in Midgets 1 with his 45 and Grace Pauline Quintanilla of STC-Cebu in the special division.
