MANILA, Philippines - Xavier University took the big prize in the girls division while Oro Christian and San Miguel claimed two titles each in the recent Mindanao leg of the ICTSI-JGFP National Inter-School golf championships at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club course in Cagayan de Oro City.
Pamela Mariano fired 98 points on consecutive rounds of 49 while Mary Ann Arbole added 43 as Xavier went unchallenged in Girls 1 with their 141 aggregate in the 36-hole tourney featuring the best junior parbusters in Mindanao.
Christian Oro bagged the juniors and Midgets 1 while San Miguel captured Midgets 2 and Girls 3 in boys action of the competition backed by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. Foundation with the major support of the Philippine Golf Foundation. The other sponsors are Frankie Miñoza Foundation, Golf Depot, Martin Lorenzo and Inquirer Golf.
The event, part of a national series featuring more than 500 jungolfers, was graced by Miñoza who awarded the trophies to the winners, among them his young relatives.
Alfa Miñoza, Almica Miñoza and Cyra Abano, representing Manolo Fortich National High School, aggregated 79 for the Girls 2 crown.
Tommey Jeong and Marc Lu both fired 79 to lead Christian Oro teammates Carl Chabon (68), Ryu Rolida (63) and Roy Tiu (13) to the Juniors plum while another Oro Christian team made up of Coby Rolida (72) , Francis Tan (56) and Johnro de Leon (53) went home with the Midgets 1 plum after posting 181.
It was a 1-2 finish by San Miguel in Midgets 2 with Rolnado Bregente (89), Nino Miñoza (58) and Cris Aparilla (41) bagging the crown with a 188 total while Marie Aparilla (45) and Princess Babia (10) delivered the second award for San Miguel in the Girls 3 division.
Mariano led the individual winners that also included Alfa Miñoza, Nico Canlas of St. Mary in juniors, Jack Mabaylan of Camp Evangelista in Midgets 1, Bregente in Midgets 2, Florante Bisera in Girls 3 and Matthew Fabiala of Abbas in Grade 2 under.
