MANILA, Philippines – While nothing is final yet, rookie Kevin Alas is thrilled at the chance to suit up for the Talk n Text Tropang Texters in the upcoming 40th season of the PBA.

Alas, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 PBA Draft, admitted he was surprised upon hearing the news of him being traded by Rain or Shine to Talk n Text.

Wala pang official as of now. I’m still waiting for the final word about it (trade),” Alas told Philstar.com in a phone interview.

Aside from Alas, the Texters have reportedly acquired his fellow Gilas cadet pool member Matt Ganuelas and Jay Washington in a complex trade deal involving NLEX, Globalport and Rain or Shine.

The former Letran standout sees his impending transfer to Talk n Text as a bigger opportunity since the Texters have a shallow rotation at the point guard spot, which isn’t the case at Rain or Shine.

“For me, tingin ko mas makakalaro ako sa Talk n Text. Even (Rain or Shine) coach Yeng (Guiao) told me that. Mas kaunti ang guards sa Talk n Text compared sa Rain or Shine,” Alas explained.

At Rain or Shine, Alas will be competing for minutes with the recently re-signed Paul Lee, Ty Tang, Chris Tiu, Jeric Teng, Jonathan Uyloan and fellow rookie Jericho Cruz.

Additionally, with Jayson Castro still nursing an injury, Alas has a better chance of getting more playing time at Talk n Text while enjoying an apprentice role to veteran Jimmy Alapag.

“Excited ako. Anytime naman ready  tayo maglaro,” he said.
