MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Ateneo, Enderun College and the Arellano University hurdled their respective rivals last Monday to boost their bids in the 12th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament at the San Beda gym in Mendiola.
Hubert Cani fired 16 points as Ateneo smothered St. Benilde, 75-55, for its fourth straight win in Group B while the Enderun Titans drew 34 points from Jordan Rios to blast the La Salle Archers, 81-63, for a 2-5 mark in Group A.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, ousteadied the Letran-A Knights, 65-62, behind Daryl Capara’s heroics to even their card at 1-1 in Group A of the tournament supported by Bauerfeind and Wang’s Basketball.
Cani struck hard in the third period, pouring in 16 points to power the Blue Eagles to lead as many as 17, 57-40.
In juniors action, Dave Cabanilla scored 23 points as the Adamson Baby Falcons beat the Arellano Braves, 80-76, while San Benildo prevailed over Far Eastern University, 66-60.
The Technological Institute of the Philippines-A Engineers swamped St. Michael College-Laguna, 102-11, with Raymond Alvarado hitting 17 points, while Mark Tamayo had 17 points for Angeles University Foundation, which toppled TIP-B, 79-69, last Saturday.
San Beda-B outplayed San Sebastian, 76-66, while San Beda-A turned back Polytechnic University of the Philippines, 62-56.
