MANILA, Philippines - Aidric Chan and Steven Ferrer both carded 52 points to lead Ateneo and La Salle Zobel, respectively, to the early lead in the ICTSI-JGFP Interschool golf championship at the hazard-laden South Links Golf Club course in Las Piñas.
Chan, recent winner of a Veritas World junior plum, teamed up with Marc Corrales and Carl Corpus to give Ateneo a 146 aggregate and an eight-point lead over La Salle Zobel in the Midgets 1 division of the multi-level tourney.
Corrales made 49 points while Corpus added a 45 for Ateneo.
The opening round of the junior division, however, turned out to be a La Salle Zobel show.
Ferrer got scoring support from Liam Cully (50) and Jets Sajulga (49) as the Zobel boys finished with a 151 for a commanding 42-point spread.
The series with the major backing of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and the support of the Philippine Golf Foundation, Martin Lorenzo, Golf Depot and Inquirer Golf resumes today with the seniors play at Ayala Greenfield and Midgets2 at Valley north.
Ferrer and Chan both had slim leads in the individual play.
Ferrer was two up on teammate Cully and Luis Miguel Castro of Learning Links Academy while Chan also gained a two-point advantage over Paqo Barro of LSS and three ahead of Corrales and Alido.
La Salle Greenhills was running third in Midgets 1 with a 105, Ateneo 2 fourth at 104, LSS at 94 and Xavier 1 at 68.
Xavier 2 took third spot in juniors action with a 103, Ateneo 1 was at 102, Learning Links at 91 and La Salle Zobel2 at 76.
