Forest Hills, Valley top WGAP golf

MANILA, Philippines - Forest Hills came away with two smashing victories at home while Valley Golf edged Tagaytay Highlands in a thrilling duel in Class C to highlight the action in the fourth leg of the 2014 Champion Infinity WGAP Circuit at Forest Hills Golf and Country Club in Antipolo recently.

The hosts, their confidence boosted by three runner-up finishes in the recent Tagaytay Midlands stage, pooled 144 points under the Modified Stableford scoring system and beat Orchard by six for the Class A crown in the event organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Phils. (WGAP)

Forest Hills’ Class C squad, meanwhile, churned out a solid 162-point output to post a whopping 22-point romp over Aguinaldo in tournament presented by Champion Infinity which featured the leading golfing ladies from the country’s top clubs.

Sun-Mi Hwang fired 39 points to lead Forest Hills’ charge in Class A with Bebilyn Lobrin, Jane Magada and Grace Atienza backing her up with 38, 34 and 33 points, respectively. Orchard also drew 39 points from Amy Dy, a 35 from Abigail Lapid and a pair of 32s from Tina Gonzales and Marissa Romano for second at 138 while Alabang, led by Kim Min Jung’s 39 markers, ended up third with a 133.

Valley Golf’s Violy Pegels shot 40 points and took the Class A individual honors with the team ending up fourth with a 132 followed by Manila Southwoods (127), Tagaytay Highlands (125), Canlubang (124)m Sta. Elena (121) and Villamor (111).

Violeta San Vicente turned in a 41, Belinda del Rosario shot a 40 while Syliva Carpio and Michelle Del Rosario added 37 and 36, respectively, as Valley Golf nipped Tagaytay Highlands, 154-153, for the Class B crown.

Veronica Velosa scored an impressive 44 points to capture the individual crown in Class B while leading the Highlanders’ drive that also included a 41 from Rosario Dimson, a 35 from Maripaz Domingo and a 33 from Mely Leyeza.

Villamor made a 146 to finish third while Canlubang came in fourth with a 139 followed by Orchard (137), Forest Hills (136), Alabang (129), Manila Southwoods (117) and Sta. Elena (114).

Evelyn Alcantara and Marilyn Co shot identical 41 points while Maria Lee So Young and Imelda Yu fired 40 points apiece as Forest Hills dominated Class C with a 162, beating Aguinaldo, which had a 140. Valley placed third with a 136 followed by Tagaytay Highlands (134) while Alabang and Canlubang tied for fifth at 132, Sta. Elena ended up seventh at 120 while Villamor made a 114 for eighth.

Aguinaldo’s Lally Trinidad bagged the Class C individual plum with 40 points.
