MANILA, Philippines - Reigning Underbone champion Niño Fabian and Paul Mark Doblada took the spotlight as they dominated the second leg of the FDR Underbone King Championship Series and the FDR Philippine Scooter Racing Championship Series respectively at the Batangas Racing Circuit recently.
Fabian survived a thrilling photo-finish with John Emerson Inguito to capture the premiere 150cc Open crown of the Underbone series while Doblada humbled the fancied bets in the 180cc PSR division of the Scooter series which are both part of the 2014 Motorsports Championship Season presented by Petronas sanctioned by the Underbone and Scooters Racing Association (USRA).
Fabian bucked the pressure from Inguito who hounded the former throughout the nine-lap race to the delight of the big crowd. But Fabian nosed out Inguito by just 0.002 of a second.
Herbert Lopez and kickoff leg winner Johnlery Enriquez checked in 0.363 and 0.471 of a second behind for third and fourth places, respectively.
Doblada ended up fifth in the event supported by media partners Racing Beat @ Wave 89.1, Inside Motoring @ dzRJ810khz and Motorsiklo Xklusibo @ dzME 1530.
Sharing the spotlight with Fabian in the Underbone series were Vrei-AR Suba, who ruled the 115 Open class over Juver Mirasol and Robert Matthew Ramos; and James Aeron Amporias, who won the 115cc Novice division over Aldrich Valencia and Jerico Gesmundo.
Doblada shone in the 180cc PSR race where he took the pole post early and kept his rivals at bay en route to victory.
He completed the eight-lap race in 16 minutes and 27.182 seconds or 1.675 seconds ahead of runner-up and first leg winner Josh Reuben Tan.
James Barcial took third place while Dustin Esguerra and Ivan Santiago wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.
Aljon Valencia emerged the 160cc PSR champion as he turned back Mayco Carbonel and Aldeine Valencia while Robert Tolentino prevailed in the 130cc PSR over Justinne Tolentino and Jason Baguasan.
Eane Jaye Sobretodo won the Honda Beat race over James Aeron Amporias and Raseson Angeles while McKinley Kyle Paz ruled the Honda Dash race over Gian Carlo Mauricio and Lorenmar Villanueva.
John Withmer Arnaiz emerged champion in the MTRT Club Race over Emil Camello and Dennison Dy while McKinley Kyle Paz topped the MTRT Club Race 115cc Scooter over Gian Carlo Mauricio and Eane Jaye Sobretodo.
