MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University Tamaraws sustained their torrid shooting from the field all game long to defeat the San Beda College Red Lions, 89-79, and gain the second seed at the conclusion of their elimination round assignments in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup yesterday at the San Juan Arena.
FEU shot a blistering 53 percent from the field led by Mike Tolomia’s game high 26 points on 9-14 shooting including 4-4 from the three-point area.
The Perpetual Help Altas came back from 18 points down to pip La Salle, 98-95, in their final match of the summer, but the final outcome fell two points short of the marginal victory the Altas needed to reach the quarterfinal round.
The Altas needed to win by five points but two Arnold Van Opstal free throws with 3.8 seconds left allowed La Salle to sneak into the quarterfinals due to the quotient system.
