MANILA, Philippines - The 2014 Vios Cup fires off today with 30 drivers all geared up for a thrilling showdown for top honors using a One-Make Toyota Vios 1.5G M/T at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
Andres Calma of TAI, Basti Escalante of TOT and Bryan Co of TLU head the elite cast vying in the event, Toyota Motor Philippines’ banner program that sums up the leading car firm’s “bring back the fun and excitement of driving a Toyota†concept.
Also in the fold are Carlos Castaneda of TAI, Carlos Loinaz of TBT, Charlie Cojuangco of TDG, Ferdi Raquelsantos of TMI, Inaki Araneta of TAI, Jason Choachuy of TBK, Jeje Villena of TAI, Juan Nolasco of TBK, Kyle Reyes, Luis Gono of TNE, Romy Maristela of TQA, Paul Ang of Toyota Marilao, Pauland Dumlao of TSF, Robert Liles of Toyota Shaw, Dominic Ochoa of TQA, Allay Uy of TQA and Tonton Ramos of TQA.
The event, powered by TRD, Bridgestone, Rota, Motul, OMP and Denso, is held in cooperation with all Toyota dealer outlets with the teams recruiting their own drivers to spearhead their respective title bids.
Spicing up the day-long racing is a series of side events, including a concert, track day, games and activities and a drift exhibition by Japanese drift king Keiichi Tsuchiya.
Ten of the 30 entries will also come from the media and entertainment sectors with Ardie Lopez racing for C! Magazine, Anjo Perez and Christopher Kho bannering Time Attack Manila, Ira Panganiban representing Autocar and Manny Delos Reyes vying for The Philippine STAR.
Phoemela Baranda, who ruled the exhibition race early this year, headlines the celebrity cast along with Jinno Rufino, Samir Gogna (Sam YG), Fabio Ide and Rhian Ramos.
Meanwhile, the next two legs of the Vios Cup will be held July 25-26 and Oct. 17-18, respectively, also at Clark International Speedway.
