NEW DELHI — The Badminton World Federation will discuss alternative options to its scoring system at a forum Friday on the sidelines of the Thomas and Uber Cup tournaments.
The BWF issued a statement Tuesday saying it hopes to add to the "intensity and excitement" as well as reduce the length of time for matches by amending the existing format, which is best-of-three games to 21 points.
The federation has asked for feedback on three systems being considered — two games of 21 points with another of 11; three games of 15 points or five games of nine points.
BWF secretary general Thomas Lund says the first formal discussion on scoring changes since 2006 was needed to keep the sport evolving and "we think the time is right to discuss with our members."
