UFL holds Super Cup with six-team roster

MANILA, Philippines - The United Football League has calendared a new conference dubbed “The UFL Super Cup” in its regular season tournaments in the middle of the year as an added incentive to First Division teams that will perform well.

According to organizers, the Super Cup will unfold right after the ongoing UFL League ending in June with the top six teams of the top division making it to the event which will now be a regular staple aside from its usual League and Cup schedules.

The new conference will pit the top six clubs against each other in an intense knockout competition.

With the League currently in its third and final round, teams already out of the title race, or the relegation battle, will have a chance to fight for something, which one of the six slots in the Super Cup.

The UFL Super Cup is expected to bring plenty of excitement, as the League’s best performers will be facing off in grueling two-legged ties in quick turnaround matches.

Based on the newly formulated format of the Super Cup, the eventual champion and runner-up will automatically qualify  straight to the semis with the third and sixth placed squad and second and fourth placed battling each other to play the early semis entrants.

If the Super Cup will be held now, current League leader Global, a team managed by Phl Azkals team manager Dan Palami, LBC-backed Kaya, Loyola Meralco Sparks and Stallion Giligans are four of the teams that will most likely make the cut with Pachanga PLDT Home Fibre, Green Archers United-Globe and Phl Army-General Trias International battling for the last two berths.

Unlike in the Cup, the other knockout competition which takes place at the start of the season, the Super Cup will feature two-legged ties – with the score of the first game carrying over to the second clash.

The format creates a thrilling dynamic where clubs are virtually pitted in a heated 180-minute match separated into two 90-minute bouts. With only the very best of the 1st Division involved, the new addition is expected to wrap up the UFL season in exciting style.
