UST stops CEU, forces lead share

MANILA, Philippines - Tin Siapoc hit three triples in the first half as University of Santo Tomas snapped Centro Escolar University’s six-game winning run with a 73-65 victory in the third Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League (PCABL) Dickies Women’s Cup at the CEU Lumera Tower gym in Legarda over the weekend.

Siapoc’s torrid shooting coupled by Bets Peñaflor’s gutsy drives in the first two quarters were enough to unsettle the Lady Scorpions, who fell behind by 10 points, 28-38, at the half.

Siapoc buried another triple in the fourth to finish with 17 points, the same output put in Lorie Rivera.

With the win, the Tigresses tied the Lady Scorpions at the helm at 6-1 in the tournament presented by Dickies.

Reigning UAAP champion La Salle made the race for the two final berths more interesting by downing College of St. Benilde, 74-35.

The win hiked La Salle’s record to 4-3 in the event sponsored by Smart Telecom, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Power House, CW Home Depot, Dickies Underwear and Hapee Toothpaste.

In the other game, many-time UAAP champion Far Eastern U reasserted its mastery over newcomer Fatima, 105-36, to improve to 3-4.
