Ringia, Directo rule Head jr tilt 2nd leg

MANILA, Philippines - Top seeds Janus Ringia and Mark Alfred Directo played true to form and beat separate rivals to rule the second leg of the 16th Head 2014 Junior satellite circuit national tennis annual age-group tournament at the GSCTC court in Gen. Santos City over the weekend.

Ringia whipped Merwin Estrellado in the finals of boys’ 14-under singles class, 6-2, 6-1, to win his second straight crown after winning the same division in the first leg in Davao City of the annual satellite circuit sanctioned by Philippine Tennis Association.

“It’s really nice to sustain my championship drive up to the second leg and I hope to do it again,” said Ringia, who is also expected to compete in the third leg in Cagayan De Oro.

Directo trounced Denzel Dizon, 6-4, 6-2, to secure the boys’ 12-under singles crown in the event sponsored by Smart Communications, Smart Sports, Chris Sports, HEAD Graphene, Toalson and Head, the official tennis ball.

Jeleardo Amazona, meanwhile, blanked Christian Fel Lopez in the boys’ 18-under singles finals, 6-3, 7-5, while Sharyl Delos Santos defeated second seed Shaira Hope Rivera in the girls’ 18-under finals, 6-4, 6-3.

Christian Fel Lopez trounced Jherick Delos Santos in the championship round of boys’ 16-under finals, 6-2, 6-3, while Shaira Rivera def Clarizza Caorte in the 16-under girls finals 6-2, 6-0.

Top seed Patricia Velez ripped Nicole Bautista, 6-3 6-3, to capture the girls’ 14-under singles trophy, while Jessica Mae Carcueva ripped April Minnette Bentillo, 6-3, 6-2, to claim the girls’ 12-under crown.
