Pugo Adventure seizes 7-pt lead in Corp Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Pugo Adventure flashed top form and pooled a 158 to open a seven-point lead over Team Nueva Ecija at the start of the seniors competition in the 26th Philippine Corporate Cup at the Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City yesterday.

New recruit Fred Puckett shot 54 points on a course he calls home as he led Pugo Adventure’s early charge with Ed Montenegro, Goody Ignacio and Park Jon-won backing him up with a pair of 52 points under the Molave scoring system. One of the 52s, however, didn’t count in the four-to-play, three-to-count format.

Team Nueva Ecija, out to break Pugo Adventure domination of the annual event featuring the country’s top golfing corporations, assembled a 151 and stood seven points behind.

Arnold Duay and Jimmy Dy each carded a 52 while Gov. Tomas Joson III added a 47.  Joel San Vicente failed to count with a 37 in the event co-presented by Ayala Land Premiere and Megafiber.

Megafiber, meanwhile, struggled with a 146 built around the 49s of Ben Jacinto and Mari Hechanova, a new addition from the recent PAL Seniors Interclub runner up Canlubang like Rene Unson, who chipped in a 48.  Playing manager Albert MG Garcia didn’t count with a 43.

A far fourth was SMC Chem with 117 with Mario Madayag and Buddy Cabrera adding 39 and 37, respectively.  Top seed BIC Investment Co. made a 109 for fifth followed by TNT Golfers of Southwoods 1 (108) and Aloha Golf Club (94) in that order.

In the regular men’s Division III, Manolo Agojo (49), Manolo Antonil (48) and Bonifacio Sumbilla (45) put in a 142 as AMSI-Shakey’s Calamba gained a three-shot lead over KT Glass (139), which got 47s from Bayani Tecson and Romy Tio and 45 from Bong Mangaoang.

Meanwhile, action in Divisions I and II begins today with Toyota Baguio staking a brand new Wigo car for a hole in one feat on No. 15.
