MANILA, Philippines - Dubbed as the Philippines top outdoor hub, Recreational Outdoor exchange (R.O.X) has forged a strong bond between the outdoor community with its well-thought out selection of world-class brands. Beyond that, R.O.X. has shown a genuine desire to uplift and nurture the community through its countless advocacies that promote the outdoors and projects that aim to increase environmental conservation awareness.
Following its succees in the first two editions, R.O.X. gears up for the third leg of the National Bouldering Competition slated March 22-23 at the Ampitheater, Bonifacio High Street.
More than just a competition, organizers said the series of events is set to make history as it seeks to promote climbing as a highly competitive sport in the country. In fact, the competition will critically determine the qualified climbers to be part of the national climbing team – bouldering that will represent the country in various international events.
Bouldering was introduced to the Southeast Asian Games when Indonesia hosted it in 2007.
R.O.X. hosted the first leg in Cebu last May 25 -26 last year with an event tagged “Zero Gravity: Cebu National Boulder Competition†while the second leg, dubbed “The Second Leg: National Bouldering Series, was hosted by Habagat Outdoor Inc. Oct. 11-13 at Ayala Centrio.
This time, R.O.X. is teaming up with the Sport Climbing Association of the Philippines, Inc. (SCAPI), a non-stock non-profit national sport association dedicated to the promotion, development, and awareness of sport and rock climbing in the country and to the selection of its national athletes. Serving as the official technical team for the event, SCAPI serves the role of ensuring that all contestants will meet international standards.
Poised to be one of the largest gathering of the country’s best climbers nationwide, the competition will be divided into two categories, Novice or beginner’s category and Open or elite category.
Organizers said the national bouldering competition is bound to be an exciting and adrenaline-filled event that will further the progress of the climbing community and the country’s presence in the international field of climbing.
R.O.X. has been at the forefront of promoting various outdoor sports such as climbing, in an effort to inspire individuals to live more holistic and active lifestyles. With its array of climbing brands such as Black Diamond, Blue Water Ropes, Evolv, and Mountatin Hardwear, not to mention, its flagship store in Bonifacio High Street which has a 40-foot climbing wall operated by Power Up Climbing Gym.
