MANILA, Philippines - The University of the East will honor its student-athletes for their performance in national and international sport competitions during school year 2013-2014 in the 2014 Recognition Day today at the UE Theater at C.M. Recto Avenue, Manila.
Roi Sumang, member of the UAAP season 76 Mythical Five Selection and 2013 SEA Games gold medalist, and Love Joy Sto. Domingo, UAAP season 76 Rookie of the Year for women, head the awardees from basketball with Clichelleyn Del Rosario, Wilhelmina Lozada and Jaime Nicanor leading the women’s fencing roster.
The men’s fencing awardees are Alvin Almonte, Manoah Baal, Clark Vincent De Guzman, Bruce Kevin Ng, Michael Nicanor, Marlow Osayan, Kenneth John Paraso, Nathaniel Perez, Paul Oneal Talavera and Lee Eigran Ergina.
Others to be feted are (judo) Zebedee Buagas, Bianca Mae Estrella, Mary Grace Guiling, Monica Pineda and Rocindy Rodriguez; (table tennis) Nestor Estrella Jr., Manuel Montes Jr., Xy-dhe Kim Ramos, Xyjan Aries Ramos, John Andrew Sazon, John Vincent Soriano, John Paul Vasquez and Chun Chang Wu;

To receive the Athlete of the Year award is men’s fencer gold medalist Nathaniel Perez, who also maintained a very good academic standing and competed in three events – saber, foil and epee– for the UE men’s fencing team to defend its championship crown for a historic back-to-back championship.
UE president and chief academic officer Dr. Ester Garcia will preside over the recognition rites as well as convey inspirational words to the awardees.
UE Chaplain Rev. Fr. Bernard Martin, MSSC, will commence the recognition rites with an invocation, followed by opening remarks from Dr. Justina Evangelista, UE Manila College of Arts and Sciences Dean. Culminating the ceremonies is the closing remarks to be delivered by Dr. Linda Santiago, UE Manila Chancellor.
