MANILA, Philippines – Michael Christian Martinez, the Philippines’ lone bet in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, became a source of pride for Filipinos after making it to the medal round of the men’s figure skating competition.

Martinez, 17, attained a score of 64.81 in the qualifying round, enough to barge into the round of 24.
The next round will start late Friday.
