MANILA, Philippines - Mike Tyson still can’t find any boxer as exciting or as sensational as Manny Pacquiao.
To the former heavyweight champion, Pacquiao remains the man to watch inside the boxing ring.
In a recent apperance on Sportsnation, Tyson said Pacquiao’s performance against Brandon Rios in Macau last Nov. 24 is something to talk about.
The segment “10 Questions with Mike Tyson†started with boxing commentator Max Kellerman asking the former champion about the boxer he enjoys most watching right now.
“Big time fighters now? Pacquiao looked sensational the last fight,†said Tyson, drawing cheers from the live audience.
Then he continued by saying, “No fighter, any expert, no fighter looks more sensational than Pacquiao looked the other night. No fighter. Name a fighter that looks more sensational than Manny Pacquiao the night he fought Rios.â€
Prior to the fight against Rios, the Filipino lost to Tim Bradley on points and was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez.
Pacquiao stayed off the ring for 11 months and in that time faced questions about retirement.
The victory over Rios doused cold water to all talks.
Kellerman’s co-host, retired NFL player Marcellus Wiley, then dropped the name of Floyd Mayweather Jr., the undefeated American who wants to be called the best boxer of all time.
Tyson cut him short.
“Hey listen. Didn’t I show you’re a neophyte in boxing? You know nothing about boxing,†said Tyson.
There was ribbing on air.
“No one said who was better,†Tyson said explaining his stand.
“I said there’s nobody in boxing that looks more sensational the way that Pacquiao did against Rios,†said Tyson.
“He was masterful, the side movements Rios couldn’t get a punch off. It was aggressive and (full of) action. He throws a lot of punches, masterful boxing, like Willie Pep. It was brilliant.â€
Tyson earned over $300 million as a boxer and lost them all.
