National triathletes test mettle vs upcoming stars in Tri United

MANILA, Philippines - Triathletes from the Philippine Team test their mettle against a slew of  talented competitors in the Tri United 4 Sunday, starting at 6 a.m, at the Fontana Hot Spring Leisure Parks in Clark, Pampanga.

Tri United 3 champion Benjamin Rana comes in as the heavy favorite among Unilab Active Health’s entries in the sprint distance (900m swim-30K bike-5K run) Male Elite division which includes Dan Brown, Philip Atento and Mark Husana. The Philippine team triathletes are Kevin Eijansantos, Edward Macalalad, Jimuel Patilan, Allen Gabrielle Santiago and youth star Louie Lalanto.

On the distaff side, ULAH’s Ani De Leon-Brown goes for a repeat against the  Philippines’ Mary Pauline Fornea, ULAH teammate Kim Mangrobang and Claire Adorna.

The organizing Bikeking (headed by Raul Cuevas) said 337 individual entries have been confirmed. This includes six male and female participants in the Teens (600 swim-20K bike-5K run) age-group division. Also listed are 33 teams competing in the team relay category.

The awarding ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at the finish line area.

A portion of the Tri United 4 proceeds will be donated by Bikeking to Typhoon Yolanda relief efforts through the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).
