PABA elections set Dec. 5

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Amateur Baseball Association will hold its elections on Dec. 5 at the Quezon City Sports Club, according to PABA executive vice president and commissioner Ely Baradas.

“Any PABA member may run for any position,” said Baradas, who has also requested the Philippine Olympic Committee to send an observer to the said exercise.

The elections will come two months after the death of long-time PABA president Hector Navasero.

“It’s been long overdue. We haven’t had any election for a long time now,” said Baradas, who will seek the presidency with or without any other contender.

Baradas called on all 17 PABA stakeholders and regional representatives to join the exercise as well as the representatives of identified schools with baseball programs and PABA’s corporate, private and public partners.

Around 50 votes are expected to be cast on election day.

At stake are positions of president, three vice presidents, three members of the executive committee and secretary-general.

“Having a POC observer is very important because it’s a must for any NSA (national sports association) holding an election,” said Baradas.

“We call on everyone to participate in this elections,” added the long-serving PABA official.
