MANILA, Philippines - Hope Christian College and De La Salle-Zobel face off today in a duel of fancied teams for the Pool A lead even as University of Santo Tomas seeks its second straight win in Pool B of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Season 11 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Hope Christian College tossers thwarted the Jubilee Christian Academy side, 25-8, 25-21, while the DLS-Zobel spikers repulsed the Miriam College squad, 25-10, 25-19, last Monday to post their second straight victories in the single round-robin tournament sponsored by Shakey’s.
Hope and DLS-Zobel tangle at 3 p.m. after the 2 p.m. match between UST and MGC New Life Christian Academy. Kings’ Montessori School and Jubilee Christian Academy clash at 4 p.m. while National U and St. Scholastica’s College dispute second place at 5 p.m.
St. Scholastica’s College, meanwhile, bounced back from its opening day setback to Angelicum with a 25-15, 25-16 victory over MGC New Life Christian Academy while tournament favorite National U also rebounded from its three-set loss to UST with a 25-15, 25-16 romp over Angelicum.
The top two teams in each side will then clash in the crossover semis on Nov. 10 with the winners disputing the crown and the lone berth in the Tournament-of-Champions of the event backed by Mikasa, Asics, Tune Hotel, Burlington, BioFresh, Food Health and Science Magazine.
Ten teams, divided into two groups, are vying in the two-weekend long event, one of the eight regional tournaments held to select the best which will meet in the T-of-C to be spiced up by guest teams from Australia and New Zealand.
