MANILA, Philippines - The San Antonio Bobcats subdued the Calayan cagers, 72-66, to kick off their title-retention bid in the fourth Gov. David “Jay-Jay†Suarez Basketball Cup recently at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena.
The defending champions led two other squads in winning their initial matches in the event jointly organized by the Quezon provincial government through Gov. Suarez as a showcase of the province’s basketball talents.
The Governor’s Squad whipped BJMP-Quezon, 81-64, while CSTC tripped PNP-Quezon, 83-75, in other matches of the cagefest sponsored by Rite-Med, Alaxan, Unilab, Biogesic and Sinclair Paints.
“We would like to thank all the teams participating in the Jay-Jay Basketball Cup and look forward to exciting games,†said Webster Letargi, Suarez’s chief of staff, who represented the governor during the competition’s inaugural rites.
Quezon provincial athletic director Jonas Guiao and Unilab representative Ferds Bregera also graced the opening.
