YEONGAM, South Korea — Formula One's governing body, the FIA, has told teams there is no plan to introduce a monopoly fuel supplier to the sport despite the plan being included in a media release last week.
The initial announcement worried many teams, who gain significant sponsorship dollars from fuel and oil suppliers which would likely have disappeared if they no longer had independent providers.
A letter from the FIA to teams ahead of this weekend's Korean Grand Prix calmed those fears and said there would be no monopoly supplier.
The letter did not say why the idea was included in a media release.
