MANILA, Philippines - Local bets are expected to hog the spotlight when Gen. Santos City hosts the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala presented by Babolat tennis tournament beginning tomorrow at the City Court Tennis Club.
With registration fee waived and T-shirts and giveaways awaiting all participants, CCTC president Dr. Mario Dideles sees a banner field to slug it out for top honors in nine events in the four-day tournament ending Monday.
Dideles expects not just the local players to see action but also those from other cities and provinces in Mindanao with fabulous prizes up for grabs in the tournament sanctioned by Philta headed by president and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez.
“We thank the host club for making it an open tournament, giving the youth of GenSan and those from nearby provinces a feel of tournament play and gain experience,†said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro.
The tournament serves as the 18th leg of the nationwide circuit put up by Palawan Pawnshop and Babolat, headed by Technosports president Guillermo Nocom.
Events on tap are the 10-unisex, and the boys and girls’ 12-U, 14-U, 16-U and 18-U categories.
“We hope to produce new stars the way it did in Dumaguete last week when Elmar Christian Lagat humbled the seeded bets to capture two titles (Under-14 and -16 titles,†said Olivarez.
