NU vows big finish in UAAP cheerdance

NU Bulldogs hope to further give perennial title contenders UP and FEU a tougher challenge in the coming UAAP Cheerdance wars this Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

MANILA, Philippines - The National University Bulldogs Pep Squad hopes to sustain its climb from sixth place in 2011 all the way to the top in the UAAP Season 76 cheerdance competitions set today at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

“We’ve been preparing hard and, yes, we are very confident of our chance,” said NU Pep Squad coach Ghicka Bernabe, vowing to give last year’s top two finishers UP and FEU a big challenge.

“We’re giving it our best shot – creativity, stunts, costumes, pros and everything,” added Bernabe who steered the team to the championship in the 2013 National Cheerdance Championships last March, beating FEU.

NU has become a force to reckon with in the UAAP since Hans Sy, son of mall magnate Henry Sy, took over the administration of the school with his hands-on approach.

The pep squad program alone has become more dynamic, getting full support from Macro LPG, which believes in the school’s capability to establish a long reign in cheerdance tourney.

“I think we have a spot here (cheerdance). NU has been very competitive and we hope to be in the coming years,” said Pat Chunsim, Macro LPG representative.

“We believe we can improve on our third-place finish last year,” added Chunsim.
